Superheroes. Everyone always gets a big kick out of asking who would win in a fight: blank or blank. Sometimes it is even a triple threat match making the question who would win in a fight: blank, blank, or blank. I feel that such a tedious question is below me. I have a more sophisticated mind that ponders matters of real intelligence. (Those last two sentences are obviously setting up an ironic question that will make one say, “Hey, his mind ain’t that sophisticated.”) Who would win in a staring contest: Spiderman or The Red Ranger (from the original series): and, both having a mask, would either cheat?
Believe it or not there is some thought behind the question. My reasoning for the two heroes is this. I like them the best. Spiderman has strength, brains, and is selfless. The Red Ranger was hand picked by Zordon to lead a group of teenagers to save the world. He is a team leader, has the skills of a ninja, and he gracefully turned over his power coin when he was picked to be an ambassador at a Peace Conference in Switzerland.
I think I will address the cheating part of the question first. Both lie quite a bit. Then again that is to hide their identity so their enemies will not seek after their loved ones. It is a tough question. Both guys are honest fellows. BUT they both try there hardest to defeat a villain. Spiderman, however, rarely kills a foe. This may be so the series can bring the villain back in a dramatic twist years later, but it is still a valid point.
The Red Ranger always fights to kill and will do whatever he has too. Most of the time he does shit we never knew existed. Combining his power sword with an axe, bow, lance, and dagger to make a Power Blaster, which is a type of gun thing. Or at random times he can help summon Titanus, a Brontosaurus-type dino looking mega zord. (Fun fact: when I searched brontosaurus in google, image child porn art showed up.) Anyways, the Red Ranger can be said to be resourceful, but at the same time it is clear that he will destroy his enemy at any means. Here comes a big but (That sounds ripe for a pun. I’ll give you a clue the words come and but could be spelled differently in the pun). Spiderman has special powers. He could probably sense if The Red Ranger would blink. The Red Ranger would think of this (he is a smart guy) and would not take the risk. So no! The Red Ranger would not cheat only out of fear of being caught.
Spiderman gives off the feel of not doing “anything” to win, but he always wins. So take his Eagle Scout persona with a grain of salt. Spiderman does not have to fear being caught like The Red Ranger, but as we have seen Spiderman has many internal mental problems. He always feels guilty, is second-guessing himself, has a hard time making big decisions, and blames himself for others’ misfortunes. I do not believe he could live with himself afterwards. I do believe he would recognize this flaw within him and not be able to deceive a fellow hero.
So who would win? Well the factors that make a blinking contest hard are light and wind. Light annoys the eyes and wind dries them up. Obviously the two have masks with tinted eyeholes. So neither light nor wind seems to be a huge factor. Unless, like in most of his climatic fights, Spiderman’s mask is ripped, revealing his eyes. That still doesn’t change this simple fact; humans blink and spiders don’t, so Spiderman would win.
